Honeymooning in St. Lucia! It’s secluded and romantic but a quick stroll into the local culture when you want it!

10/16/2016

This is our first time to St. Lucia, and we’re so happy with our decision to stay in this gorgeous villa. It’s secluded and romantic but a quick stroll into the local culture when you want it! First suggestion – rent a car.

It’s nice to have, and a lot of the local attractions are within driving distance with parking. The streets are no joke – very bumpy and narrow and winding! After a day or so, you get the hang of it.

On our first full day, we walked into town for Zaka Coffee in the morning. Good red coffee, and a fun atmosphere. We also came here for a smoothie later in the wek and it was delicious. Very filling! After exploring the downtown, a bit, we stopped to have a beer at the local bar across from Ruby’s on the way back to the Villa’s road. Don’t know the official name, but its worth a stop. The bartender, Natty (long A) is very friendly and will chat with you about local things to do. We had a couple of Pitons and headed out to get lunch at Fedos (follow Signs). It’s a decent little neighborhood restaurant. Had the grilled fish one day and fries. The chicken roti another day. Was not a fun of the roti. I would suggest a fish dish if you go.
Later that night, we took the Sunset Cruise. HIGHLY recommended this. It’ s about $130.00 usd a couple but worth it. Endless rum punch, appetizers and FUN. The crew is all about having a good time. They play fun music and the sunset and views are outstanding. They only run on Tuesday’s and Friday, so plan accordingly. “They do a pickup at Sugar Beach so you can experience those views as part of the cruise”.

Next must do – The Tet Paul Nature Trail. This is such a beautiful hike that only takes about an hour, counting photo stops. We were so happy we decided to go this route vs. the 4-hour nature hike. Your camera is a must – OMG. So beautiful.

Dinner – Hotel Chocolat (Boucan Restaurant) was delicious and such a cool/modern atmosphere. Definitely go around 5:30pm for a drink before dinner. The sunset behind the Piton is breathtaking. Dinner service starts at 6pm. The food is phenomenal. We had multiple drinks, a risotto app, tow entrees and a dessert for about $175.00 total including tip. They also throw in a lot of things to taste along the meal free of charge.

Don’t underestimate the beautiful infinity pool during the afternoons. It’s so relaxing. The view is ridiculous. So nice to have a backyard.

A couple of notes:
  • Ruby’s doesn’t seem to open until 3pm – we’ve tried to have lunch here twice – heard its great so planning on going for an early dinner after this week.
  • The local grocery stores do not have fresh meat/seafood like we were expecting, but there are local street markets with items if you go early. Janus kindly brought us fresh fish one day! So nice.
  • Call Simon Says for tours! He’s great and seems to really care about your time here. He offers multiple excursions where he picks you up at the waterfront.
  • Take advantage of the phone Janus provides -  he always answered our calls and was willing to help answer any questions we had. He’s a wonderful host!
  • Petit Peak food was nothing special, but it was nice to be on the water when drinking. Wouldn’t consider it a must.
  • Having a full beach day at Anse Chastanet beach tomorrow – will report back!
This beach was absolutely beautiful, got a hut and two chairs all day for $33.00USD, great deal. Lunch at the restaurant was delicious. About $14.00 per sandwich. I had the pork and chicken sandwich. HIGHLY recommend spending a day here!
  • Do the Simon Say snorkel tour. You will stop at 3 spots and have a wonderful meal at his family restaurant for $140.00 per couple. All fees for snorkeling and lunch included. Plus, beers!
  • Sugar Beach Bayside Restaurant was very nice for dinner. We had the mussels and seafood chowder. (each about $22-$24USD). Nice atmosphere but a ton of bugs (we sat along the water -  sit higher up away from the water).

The supermarket in town was helpful for small dinner items like rice, vegies, and alcohol. We picked up a few Piton Six Packs here to enjoy the pool.

Took a drive up north one day to Castries – not extremely touristic-friendly in terms of things to do. We only stayed a couple of minutes and drove back south to Marigot Bay. This spot was beautiful but a ghost town now because of off-season. Still very pretty!
Highlights:
  • Sunset Cruise on Mystic Man Cruise
  • Tet Paul Nature Trail
  • Boucan Dinner at Hotel Chocalat
  • Simon Says Snorkel Tour
  • Anse Chastanet Beach Day!!

Janus was a great host and we had such a wonderful time here! There really is nothing like lounging in the pool and staring at those Pitons. Can’t wait to see picture of the new development, Janus!

    WEATHER IN SAINT LUCIA
While most places in the world have four well-defined seasons, its proximity to the equator means that this is not really the case for the island of St. Lucia.
