SERRANA VILLA JOURNAL

Explore all the Trailblazers. They’ll put you on the right path.

This was a fantastic trip. Waking up to this view with coffee, the day ahead was part of the best moments here

2/25/2017

Arrived at St. Lucia early evening and was met by Islander Car Rental who basically Navigated us to the Stunning Villa, if not for them, I’m not sure we would have had the confidence to make it up the hill. LOL.

Janus – Super host. Knowing we couldn’t hit the grocery store left bread, juice, fruit, so we could wake up in the morning to the view and some breakfast. We walked to the gas station and picked up Beers, the night of arrival – because you know – priorities.

Walking and Driving Tips:

Walk and explore Soufriere at any time or night. At First it feels like out of your comfort zone but push through it. The Folks are friendly, the goats, chickens, wild dogs are docile (harmless). They all do their own thing.

Driving- the island has a treasure trove of beauty and secrets but braving the roads is the right of passage to find it. If you’ve rented a car and get to the road and think- ‘’What in God’s name…this can’t be right’’ then you’re on the right track. Keep going.

Beach trifecta – Advice go to all 3 & pick your favorite for the trip

Anse Cochon – my personal Favorite. Not crowded, best waves, $10 pp to get into resort then you can use the $10 towards a drink or your meal. No Pushy vendors when we were there. Drive is 45 mins- 1hr – more of an effort.

Anse Chastanet – beat snorkeling, best food but smaller section of public beach – no entry cost. 12 mins. drive. Sketchy road.

Sugar Beach – Best view, tiny public beach, free entry and chairs. Long walk in and out if you don’t buy a drink – easy drive. 12 mins. Drive.

Tip – At time their VISA Machines don’t work. Bring some cash just in case
Food:

Anse Chastanet Beach Bar for lunch – Great roti & catch of the day.

Fedo’s – just down this road to your right in this community. Amazing local joint for lunch.

Ruby’s Pizza & Grill – Close by. Great Atmosphere. Ferrance the owner is great and will tell you what to order.

Orlando’s – 5-6 courde fixed menu to die for when we went. Around $60-$80 pp US.

Janus is incredible. Get to know him. Don’t feel bad to ask any questions. He really is willing to help and genuinely wants you to have the best time. THANK YOU!!

This was a fantastic trip. Waking up to this view with coffee, the day ahead was part of the best moments here.

P.S – there is a big Bee that may come in the villa in the morning when you have all the doors open. He finds his way out and his name is Carl.

We had an amazing week here! Janus made us feel like personal guests and Serrana Villa is an amazing place to be a guest.

We had an amazing week here! Janus made us feel like personal guests and Serrana Villa is an amazing place to be a guest. It’s beautiful and comfortable and the infinity pool is glorious. Food wise we had heavenly meals at Orlando’s (met Orlando himself who could not have been more Generous), Hummingbird had fancy but tiny cocktails and some of the best Mahi-Mahi we have ever had.

Spent a morning at Anse Chastanet while we didn’t rent chairs, the beach was empty, yet beautiful, Sugar beach was much busier, so you get the good and bad that comes with that
SEAN located at Poonty’s Pizza was our guide Nox and His brother Byron and they were tremendous hosts.

Taxi’s are unwilling to come up the hill but Janus’s drivers are cheaper and friendly and more reliable anyways.

We visited the Tet Paul Hike (DO NOT MISS!!!) So Beautiful, the view was literally the best we had ever seen. Went scuba diving with Action Adventure Divers – our guide was Chester. We can’t say enough about what a fantastic guide Chester was. I (Carla) was terrified to Scuba (newbie) and he personally led me to a depth I was comfortable with and showed me cool stuff to distract me. My husband (Jay) loved it as well – Chester let him spear a lion fish, which are invasive here.
The Volcano mud was pretty cool but be prepared for stinky!

Overall what a wonderful trip! Janus is the best Host and St. Lucia and the people are the BEST!

St. Lucia was an outstanding experience that was made convenient because of Janus. He’s the best host. Love this guy and expect to see him again

Arrived late after long day of travel on a Sunday night. Janus came to meet me at 9:00pm and from that point our trip was terrific. He purchased bread, fruits, eggs and juice to get us started. Made arrangements for a rental vehicle to be dropped off at the Villa. Nice little SUV to bomb around the Island. Driving was a big part of the experience. Need the SUV though.

Activities, Beaches etc. Day # 1- walked down for groceries and to scope out the area. Found people. Very friendly everywhere. The locals are great and made St. Lucia a Superb trip. Had a cocktail down at the docks. Met a guy named Denis and bought some beads. Denis knows everybody and is a great soul. Check him out! After a stop at the grocery store we made it back to the Villa. Once we got our wheels, we drove to Anse Chastanet for snorkeling, some drinks/food and Sunset. All were excellent, like beach so much we went back. Wild road into beach!

Another nice beach is Sugar Beach. Nice snorkeling, food, drinks & Sunset. Ditto here & visited twice.
Walked to Jerusalem Falls. Sat in springs and talked with nice guy named Ditman that worked there, very nice conversation.

Gros Piton- ‘’Been there, done that’’ Great Hike, nice views but wouldn’t do it again. The Tet Paul Nature Trail is much better views and an easy 46minute walk. Must do!

Tired of writing so lets say St. Lucia was an outstanding experience that was made convenient because of Janus. He’s the best host. Love this guy and expect to see him again.

*Sorry for poor penmanship and spelling. I was in Seles. LOL.

This villa was the absolute perfect slice of paradise for our honeymoon. We had the greatest time, and three weeks flew by just way to fast! Thanks again Janus!

2/5/2017

Thank you, Janus, for being an amazing host! The abundance of fresh grapefruits and fresh local bread was one of the best parts of our trip! Serrana Villa made the absolute perfect place for our honeymoon, and we had so much fun exploring Soufriere during the last three weeks. Here were a few of our favorite things to do + places to eat.
Things to do/see
  • Tet Paul Nature Trail – Beautiful easy walk. Only takes like 30-45 minutes and has super beautiful views.
  • Diamond Botanical Gardens/Falls – easy walk there from the villa. Beautiful flowers and nature, worth a visit.
  • Saturday Morning Market – This is the best place to get some of the local produce. Market is between whispers and cemetery. Be there early! (like 7:30) because they run out quick.
  • Sugar Beach – Nice snorkeling, nice beach. Need to get something at the restaurant so you can get their free shuttle up. Be there early (by 9:30) if you want to get a chair on the free side of the beach, otherwise all the boats from cruises all start rolling in.
  • Mystic Man Sunset Cruise – Cost 360ec for two people but it was really fun! Delicious rum punch haha. It includes all alcohol and some finger foods.
  • Anse Chastanet/Mamin – we got one of Janus’s driver’s to take us there because it was cheaper than a water taxi, but the road is pretty sketchy. Walked to Anse Mamin (10 min walk north of anse chastanet) water was a lot more wavey than sugar beach but still nice. Super Delicious burger at Anse Mamin!
  • L’essence Soufriere – if you are lucky enough to be here on the last Saturday of the month, this is a mus. A big street party of the waterfront with music + food and drinks and so much fun! Last Saturday of the month. Don’t go before 7pm.
  • Volcano+Sulphur/mud bath: really fun. We went at 5pm and it was really nice. The baths are actually quite hot, so it was nice to go in the evening when it was a bit cooler out. So much fun covering ourselves with mud.
  • Gros Piton Hike: kicked our asses but was well worth it! We started around 8am. I definitely would not recommend going later. The heat would have made it so much harder. You get a guide when you pay your admission and they go all the way up with you. Took us about 3.5 hours round trip. Apparently average is 4 hours.
Restaurants
  • Fedo’s – close by only open for lunch. Call in the morning and order wht you want because they run out.
  • Happy – Good place for some easy food to bring home on the way into town, near the soccer field.
  • Whispers – has a big barbecue on Friday nights. Tasty meat and super cheap. Also, best burger in town for sure!
  • Dasheen: Definitely $$ but worth the money. Beautiful view and the food was super tasty.
  • SA Nov Iration – Vegetarian food truck down on the water front. So delicious and cheap! Only problem is she only seems to start serving food around 11 or noon, but if you are down there definitely try it out!
  • Pouty’s Pizza – This was our fvorite little hungout. It’s a teeny little bar on bridge street, right across from the cemetery. Bartender’s name is Chrisa and she is super nice. Also, on Friday + Saturday nights they make pizza and it is so so so good. Best food we had the whole time we were here!
  • Ruby’s  - Was ok. Decently close which is nice, but we felt like it was pretty expensive for what it was. Pouty’s Pizza was way better.
  • Purity Bakery – Near grocery store. Coconut bread/cake is super tasty.
  • Pier 28 – good food, decent prices, right near waterfront.
The most important thing that we cannot emphasize enough is go into town and explore!! Don’t be intimidated by the walk or anything, even at night it is always find and we never felt unsafe! That was the best part of our trip was getting to know the locals and getting familiar with the area. And it’s only about a 15-20 min walk from the villa all the way down to the waterfront.

*also, side note, if you need cash, there is a CIBC near excelsior plaza. Their TM works with our debit card. The Bank of St. Lucia ATMs didn’t work for us.

If you are looking for Souvenirs there is a little place called lifestyles with some decent stuff. And right next door to lifestyles there is a lady who also sells some souvenirs if you are looking for soaps or spices or small things, she’s your lady. Her stuff is way cheaper.

This villa was the absolute perfect slice of paradise for our honeymoon. We had the greatest time, and three weeks flew by just way to fast! Thanks again Janus! Wishing you and your family all the best! Future guests, we hope you love it as much as we did!

    WEATHER IN SAINT LUCIA
While most places in the world have four well-defined seasons, its proximity to the equator means that this is not really the case for the island of St. Lucia.
