First of all, Janus is the most gracious and knowledgeable host. So you are already in the best hands. He knew everything we needed before we even asked.
  1. Drive in Volcano: We did this our first day here. Just on the other side of town, you drive there, park, then walk up to the crater of the volcano. Get a tour guide who can explain more about the history and how it’s possible. Our guide, Angel, was great. We opted not to do the Sulphur Springs Mud Bath. It was crowded at the time we heard the best time was early morning or evening to do the bath.
  2. Mineral Falls: a nice short hike to a great opening of a couple small falls. Not time consuming but gorgeous and close to the volcano.
  3. Diamond Falls and Botanical Gardens: Amazing. Absolutely worth it even though we saw mixed reviews beforehand. We had Bazoo as our guide and he was so knowledgeable about every flower, leaf, bush, tree, fruit and nut in the gardens. The falls are beautiful unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
  4. Drive to Rodney Bay: we rented a car from the airport and so glad we did. Would have been hard to do as much as we did without it. After the Botanical Garden we drove up to Rodney Bay (Through Anse La Ray, Castries, Marigot Bay, Canaries etc). the drive was crazy; very windy, twisty and turny. Often with long steep falls on either side of the narrow road. If you go slow and take your time, you are fine. It took about 2hrs to get to Rodney Bay. There we had a nice dinner at the Marina. Completely different vibe than Soufriere and the little villages, but worth seeing.
  5. Piton Climb – we met a local show showed us around to most of the things we did, luscious. We are so grateful for all of the places he took us to and the wisdom he shared. He brought us up the Piton (Petit) off the regular path. Craziest hike ever; it was more like rock climbing. Views at the top are unmatched. On a clear day you can see St. Vincent & Martinique. Climbing the Petit give you the best coastline views – Gros Piton will show you the countryside. Bring at least a liter of water and hiking shoes.
  6. Market: Friday and Saturday morning a lot of street vendors out in town. Blocks and blocks of fresh fruit and more. Ends in the afternoon.
  7. Zaka – Cute little coffee shop. Smoothies and art shop. Definitely check it out right in town by the water.
Other highlights:
  • Breadfruit
  • Bread and mango that Janus dropped off – so delicious
  • Petit Peak Restaurant
  • Massy Stores having everything!
  • Sunset view at the waterfront in town
  • Volcano Steam in the morning

Janus,

Thank you for everything! You made this trip what it was, and the apartment couldn’t be more perfect. See you next time!

Julia and Michael

    WEATHER IN SAINT LUCIA
While most places in the world have four well-defined seasons, its proximity to the equator means that this is not really the case for the island of St. Lucia.
