The Piton Mountains - World Heritage Site

There's no question whether you will want to visit the Piton Mountains. Spend a little time gazing at them via the spectacular views from Serrana Villa and you will want to see them up close and personal!

The Piton Mountains are among the most famous attractions in the Soufriere area and in St. Lucia as a whole. The mountains are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and appear as twin volcanic spires that rise up from the sea side by side.  The mountains are connected by the Piton Mitan ridge. The two mountains that make up the twin Pitons are Gros Piton and Petit Piton.

Gros Piton is a bit of a challenge to hike, but is by far the easier of the two. We would be happy to help you book a guided excursion to the summit, which offers some of the best views of the island that you will find anywhere. Gros Piton features an Interpretive Centre, or a welcome center, that explains more about the geography and plant and animal life in the area.

The Park Service does require that people hiking Gros Piton do so only with a guide. The guides are informative and professional and can provide you with a great deal of information as you ascend to the top of the mountain. 

The climb itself takes around 5 hours, and is definitely more of a hike than a climb, meaning that it does not require special skills or present a great deal of danger. Those who make it to the summit are rewarded with breathtaking views of Petit Piton and of the island of St. Lucia.

Petit Piton is another matter entirely.  Making it to the summit of this mountain means using primitive fixed ropes and traversing through very narrow areas while climbing almost entirely vertically in some parts.  

Definitely not for the novice, hiking Petit Piton should only be done with an experienced guide. Taking the trip with a local is highly advised, and for those who do make it to the summit, the reward is a view that words simply cannot describe!
