While hiking Petit Piton is not sanctioned by the government, it is important to note that it is in fact legal.  With that said, however, it is important that you are accompanied by a highly experienced guide if you decide to undergo this adventure, as the mountain is quite steep and is eroded in many places so that you have only a small rope to hold onto  as you make the ascent.  

​Vertical climbing is a big part of hiking Petit Piton, and while there are certainly impeccable views, a camera such as a GoPro that allows you the use of your hands is highly recommended.
