Where to stay in Southern St. Lucia - Vieux Fort and Hewanorra International Airport
Highlights
- Southern St. Lucia is home to Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), where most of the island’s air travelers arrive.
- There are a number of hotels and resorts located not far from the airport .
- The island’s southern tip is over an hour from the capital of Castries and, while this can mean a longer drive to attractions, also lends itself to some of the quietest and least populated white sand beaches on the island.
A vast majority of travelers arriving in St. Lucia by plane will find themselves first on the southern end of the island. While not as populous as the island’s northern end, the south of St. Lucia is incredibly beautiful. There are a number of hotels and resorts located only moments from Vieux Fort’s Hewanorra International Airport (UVF).
In addition, some of the island’s most beautiful and largest white sand beaches can be found here, including Anse Des Sables and Sandy Beach. Because most of the island’s travelers stay in Soufriere or in the greater Castries area, these are often the quietest beaches and thus the best for a true getaway.
With that said, travelers looking to explore the islands’ biggest attractions will have to book a day trip or hire a taxi if making southern St. Lucia their home base.

St. Lucia Insider Guide Rental Reviews
Day 1
Arriving at Sargas, my first reaction was ‘’WOW look at the view its beautiful’’. I couldn’t wait to see & explore St. Lucia with my boyfriend. We didn’t really do much on the first day because we were already exhausted by the trip here. So, Janus treated us a ride to Hummingbird Resort for some food. The view from the restaurant was beautiful. The food there was ok. It didn’t wow me. After dinner we went back to the villa and relaxed by the pool. Highlight of the day was the pool.
Day 2
Janus helped me arrange a taxi to venture out to Gros Piton. Gros Piton is challenging, because of the step trail and its quite humid, so you are drenched in sweat throughout the hike. It is a worth it hike and must do! After the hike we went to Fedos and their food is amazing, it is local, inexpensive and completes the soul. After lunch we went back to the villa and relaxed in the pool. Later in the nigh we went to Aspara, Anse Chastanet restaurant. The sound of Nature and the waves of the beaches was like music to my ears.
Day 3
Last stay, woke up and relaxed. We will be heading to an ATV tour that Janus Suggested.
Thank you Janus and his Family for their Service. This is a very nice Villa with spectacular views. I recommend this place.

This is an amazing villa (or New Development as the locals keep telling us ) and Janus is incredibly thoughtful and responsive. Although we had a plan when we arrived and briefly went over some of the journal entries upon arrival, we kind of went with the flow and enjoyed some great time with the locals we met earlier on. Some highlight tips I don’t think we’ve seen yet are as follows:-
New Jerusalem is a series of mineral baths right down the road from the Torille Waterfall and on te right, afternoon baths are fairly empty, lovely experience.
Taking a boat to the Friday night (street party/fish fry’’ is a much better experience and well worth the U.S $30 per person. They picked us up from the docks in Soufriere, stayed with us at the party and returned with us when we were ready to go. The coastlines are stunning @ nights and the water is really relaxing.
Pitit Piton is a best of a hike. Extremely steep, rocky, challenging. There should definitely be a fit training before attempting, but take heed of the ‘’climb at your own risk’’ sign at the head of the trail we made it to the look out (not the top) and it was definitely a feat.
Go to the Sulphur springs after your hike. They’re really naturally healing & restorative. Many of our cuts, crapes & bruises and aches were eased after spending the evening there after hiking/ climbing the freaking mountain. Also go at night, much less crowded (almost empty) & we got a discount
Hope some or any of this help you to enjoy this beautiful island just a little more. Enjoy & Thanks Janus

Amazing view of the city, was nice to be set back on the outside of the town and take in all of the sights. – Tori
The kitchen is well fitted out for cooking in house so you don't always have to go out. Having access to Netflix is a nice touch as you said after along day it was nice to sit down with a film one or two nights. As we said I think some lamps would go down well especially in the bedroom and a few more hangers would be great, but it's just little extra touches that will come over time. Thanks for taking care of us, Kate – Kate
Thank Janus for hosting us. We really appreciate letting us stay in your Villa. A suggestion for your kitchen.. cooking oil. We wanted to make fried eggs but realized you didn't have any so we boiled the eggs. Haha. It's ok. Our eggs still taste good! – Kathy
Perfect week at your villa it was a great great experience! Only minor thing I would try to sort over time would be the road leading up to the villa, fine for us but if anyone elderly or inexperienced at driving used it they may find it difficult! Other than that one aspect it was fantastic! Thanks Janus. – Chrissy
Thank you again Janus for everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at sapphire and on st lucia. – David
Janus— thank you so much for everything during our stay in Soufriere. You were amazing, whether we needed a driver or just delivering us coconuts or fresh bread. Your villa was beautiful, and we can’t wait to stay there again! – Billy
Janus, We really appreciated everything you did for us to help make our honeymoon a great one! Communication was very easy, all of your drivers were so friendly and helpful, the villa was incredible and such an amazing value. We really enjoyed getting to experience the local culture and getting a sneak peak at some of your future plans. We hope to be back soon! -Jacob & Kelsy
Thank you Janus for allowing us to stay in one of your accommodations for our trip. It was a shame that we never got the chance to meet you in person. A massive thank you to our airport transport driver who was amazing and we would have loved to be able to have him (apologies I didn't take the correct spelling of his name and don't want to offend) as our driver for the entire time. One suggestion is an observation that we made in regards to it seeming that information was not always correctly passed on to staff, or may have been lost/forgotten in communication, which meant we had to explain information to the team which we would have expected them to have been aware of. – Samantha
Hey Janus, You know how we felt about Saba, it was fantastic! A couple of suggestions to improve what’s already wonderful: - In the Airbnb description, it’d be great if you could put the pictures of the pool a bit earlier in the picture roll. They come towards the end and many potential clients will want to see the pool before the bathroom sinks (I know I did, and so do many of my friends and colleagues when they’re looking for an Airbnb, they want to see the pool and that’s where they imagine they’ll spend most of the time in the villa, so give them what they want, please...). The pool should be prominently featured in the first pics. - I’d suggest offering a breakfast package for a reasonable fee for the first day (bread or crackers, eggs, bacon, local fruits...), it’d be a great option for hungry travelers who don’t know their way around yet to cook breakfast from the comfort and luxury of the villa. Keep up the amazing work! I can’t wait to see what else you have in store! – Pamela
Thank you so much for everything. That bread you brought was delicious and those mangos really were the best we’d ever had! Your place was outstanding and our only regret was we couldn’t write more in that book you have. That was a huge help and an amazing touch! Every Air B&B should have one, but you were the first. Strong work on your property. We really do hope to come see you again some day – Jennifer
Thanks again for being a very responsive host and making sure that we always had whatever we needed. Also, for sharing your very exciting plans for future development with us. – Sonya
Thank you very much. We had an unforgettable 30th anniversary and Saba was a huge part of that. As our home base for the week it was really difficult for us to head out on excursions. The home is that nice. We wanted to just hang out in the pool every day. Jamal was great he acted as a driver, concierge and a tour guide. – Lydia

Real St. Lucia Tours offers the best ways to explore the island whether you are here for a day or a week. The Island Expo Tour is great for cruise passengers and new arrivals looking to determine how they want to spend the rest of their trip, as it visits all of the island’s major highlights.
Guests with a little more time and a taste for adventure will find that Real St. Lucia Tours also offers excursions into the world’s only drive-in volcano that include a chance to take a dip in the famous mud baths as well as hikes up the majestic Piton Mountains.
Whether you want to stay at a resort and visit Soufriere via a tour or to make a luxury villa your home and explore the island at a more relaxed pace, the Islander team would love to be a part of your perfect St. Lucia vacation.
